When you truly love and care about someone, you will do almost anything to make them happy. Even if it means sacrificing your own happiness. Marriage is a lifetime commitment. When you are in, you are in and there is no turning back on your partner. You are committed to your partner for better or worse. There will be times it gets all sweet and rosy. And other times really challenging. It is your responsibility to make the most of your marriage. Treat your partner with love and respect. Don’t go seeking for love and happiness outside your marriage. Honor the commitment you both made to always be there for each other.
Take a look at five (5) ways to treat your partner better in marriage;
1) Stay committed: Love is not what you say. Love is what you do. When you are committed to someone, it is your responsibility to take care of the person. It is your responsibility to show up when they need you most in their life. You are not permitted to make careless decisions that will endanger your partner. The commitment you made to your partner is to always be there for them for better or worse. So, you don’t have an excuse for escaping your responsibilities to your partner; even when things are not going as expected in the marriage. Treat your partner better in marriage by always staying committed to them.
2) Communicate better: Communication is everything. If you fail with communication, you fail with everything. When there is no effective ground for communication with your partner, the marriage is doomed to fail. Lack of communication ruins everything because instead of finding out how your partner feels, you just assume. No one will want to spend a lifetime with someone they are not comfortable talking to. At a point the marriage will start feeling one sided; making you feel all alone. When you improve your communication with your partner, they will start opening up to things they once refused to share with you. Improve your communication with your partner.
3) Trust your partner: Trust is very essential in ensuring a healthy marriage with your partner. Without trust it will be difficult to move forward with your partner. To some people they will rather hear their partner tell them they trust them than they love them; this is because you may not always trust the person you love but you can always love the person you trust. The best proof of love is trust. Whether it is friendship or relationship, all bonds are built on trust. Without it, you have nothing. When you fully trust your partner without a doubt, you either get a partner for life or a lesson for life. Trust is one thing that will preserve your marriage during the test of time. Always trust your partner.
4) Be respectful: Respect is earned not demanded. Treat your partner the way you want to be treated. Talk to them the way you want to be talked to. When you treat your partner with respect, they will have no other choice than to treat you with the same respect. Respect is reciprocal; in order to get respect, you must give due respect. When you treat your partner with respect despite their differences, it makes them love and respect you more. It makes them blossom knowing that you don’t judge or condemn them for their wrongs. But rather you respect their differences and encourage them to improve on themselves. Always respect your partner. This is a great way to treat them better in marriage.
5) Compromise with your partner: No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes fall short of doing the right things. Understanding this, it is important to forgive your partner when they make a mistake or do something wrong. You don’t scold them with harsh criticism when you find a fault in them. But rather be understanding and look past their differences. Your willingness to always compromise with your partner after a fight or argument shows how much you value them in your life. It shows that you would rather still have them in your life than lose them as a result of your inability to compromise with them. Always be willing to compromise with your partner.
