Effective Ways to Let Go of the Past

Life is too short to start your day with broken pieces of yesterday, for it will certainly destroy your amazing day and ruin your chances of having a great tomorrow. Whatever happened yesterday that made you so bitter about life, shouldn’t be carried along to the following day.

Every day presents a new opportunity to start afresh. No matter how difficult yesterday was, don’t expect to witness the same situation again, for it is gone forever. Today is another chance to do better. The more you cling to the past, the more difficult it gets to move on with your life.

Let go of the past so that you can be free to live in and appreciate the moment. Don’t let your past experiences ruin your entire life. If you don’t break free from the negative thinking patterns that keeps drawing you back to the past, you will never be able to live a purposeful life.

Here are five (5) effective ways to let go of the past;

1. Live in the moment.

Always remember that the past can’t be changed or correctd. Whatever happened in the past is now out of your control and there is nothing you can do about it. Live in the moment and enjoy the present. No matter how hard it seems to move on with your life, always remember that until you let go of the past, you will never truly be free to become the best version of yourself. The past is out of your control, so let it go. Live in the moment and adjust your focus to only the things you can control.

2. Shake off self-guilt.

You constantly put yourself down with the amount of guilt you carry. You need to understand that no one is completely perfect. We all have flaws and we fall short of doing the right things sometimes. This is what makes us human. We wouldn’t be human is we never made a mistake or do something wrong. No matter how much we strive to be perfect, we are still likely to make a mistake or do something wrong. Don’t let the mistakes of the past keep you wallowing in self-guilt. Shake of the guilt and let go of the past.

3. Don’t fear change.

Nothing is to be feared, only to be understood. If only you get to understand that which is causing you to fear, you will be able to overcome your fears completely. You may have gone through a fearful situation in the past that you never completely healed from, so it keeps showing up to ruin your present and the chances of living a better life.

If you never healed from the past, you will not be able to truly live in the moment or have a great future. For healing to take place, you need to stop fearing change and be ready to move on with your life. Sometimes, the thing holding you back is all in your head. The moment you realize that you are the key to everything, the one holding yourself back, you will start making the necessary adjustments to improve your life.

4. Stop overthinking.

Stop overthinking. Relax and let it go. Overthinking creates more problems that aren’t there. Don’t think too much about the past, instead put more energy into what you really want to do at the moment that will improve your life. Thoughts are more powerful than you can ever imagine. We tend to attract the things we think about. If all think about is how hurtful the past was, don’t be surprised if you aren’t doing much better than in the past. If your dominant thoughts are filled with pains of the past, you will feel too burdened by your past to make anything meaningful with your life.

5. Be grateful for everything.

Let’s face the truth, you wouldn’t become the person you are today if certain things never happened to you. As a matter of fact, it was actually because of some of the challenges you went through that led to the evolution of your consciousness. Life will make you pass through whatever experience that will help you achieve spiritual awakening. Instead of feeling bad about the difficulties you passed through in the past, be grateful for everything that happened to you. Be grateful for the good, the bad and the ugly times for they all contributed to shape you into the person you are today. Always be grateful.

I agree that the more we cling to the past, the difficult it gets for us to move on with our lives. Brilliant point, perfectly written 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
