Happiness is free and can’t be bought. If you think you can buy happiness, you will eventually buy the things that you believe will make you happy and end up realizing that you are not truly happy within yourself.

Once you get to understand that happiness fleets, you will stop trying to pursue happiness, and just be happy. Happiness is your choice to make and does not depend on external things. Regardless of the things happening in your life, you can decide not to get affected by them.

You have a choice to live a happier life. It all really depends on you to be happy or not.

Follow these five (5) rules to live a happier life;

1. Love yourself.

The fountain of happiness is within you. You are the temple. If you don’t love yourself, you will someday realize that you were carrying the heaviest burden that kept weighing you down no matter how much you tried to be happy. You can’t truly be happy in life until you learn to love yourself.

If you truly want to live a happier life, you have to stop seeking validation from other people in order to feel comfortable loving yourself. No one knows you better than you know yourself, so no one can truly love you better than you can love yourself. Learn to love yourself.

2. Do good.

Do good for others, it always comes back in unexpected ways. Whatever you do, you will surely get; there are no two ways about it. In order to live a happier life, practice doing good for others. Doing good for other and helping them out in times of need not only helps them, but also gives you inner happiness and peace of mind.

Be a good person. Be there for others when they need you the most. You will find happiness in doing the little good things that makes others happy. Do good.

3. Harm no one.

Karma is real. If you don’t want any bad karma that will wreck your whole life, try not to harm anyone. You need to understand that this is your life and your cross to carry. No one will pay the consequences for your actions.

You may get away with harming someone the first time, maybe even the second time, but you will certainly suffer the consequences for hurting them; maybe not today, but someday.

If you want to live a happier life without the fear of bad karma, harm no one. Harm no one and life won’t harm you.

4. Be positive.

Positivity is the key to live a happier life. Always cultivate positive thoughts regardless of the situation you find yourself. Don’t let anything make you act in a negative way. Learn to stay positive at all times.

Negativity will have no room to breed in your life if you are always positive. Being positive doesn’t mean you should be ignorant of the things happening in your life. Yes, you may be going through a really challenging time that makes you start questioning everything. But the key is to stay positive.

Stay positive at all times. Nothing good was ever achieved with a negative mindset. You can’t live a happy life if your thoughts, words and actions are always negative.

5. Always forgive.

The reason most people are unhappy in life is because they find it hard to forgive when someone harms them. You need to understand that holding onto unforgiveness does more harm to you than to the offender. You won’t truly be able to live a happy life until you forgive the people that harmed you.

Forgiveness heals the offender and the offended. It sets you free of the heavy burden you carry in your heart. Forgive others not because they were wrong and you were right, but because it sets you free. Always forgive.
