Ways to Overcome Negative Self-Talk

The things you say to yourself on a daily basis will either build you up or break you down. Avoid saying anything to yourself that you do not want to come to pass. Be conscious of your self-talk for it is a deep conversation with the universe.

Do not entertain negative self-talk because it can have a negative impact on your self-esteem and the way you perceive the world. In order to overcome negative self-talk, it is important for you to be conscious of your negative thinking patterns and work towards replacing them with positive self-talk.

Here are some effective ways to help you overcome negative self-talk;

1. Be Conscious of Negative Self-Talk.

The first step to overcome negative self-talk is to be conscious of your negative thinking patterns and how they affect your mood and behavior. Here are practical ways to go about that;

  1. Make out time out to ponder on your thoughts and inner voice. Ask yourself questions like; What thought is this and where did it come from? What is driving this thought? How does this though make me feel?
  2. After asking yourself these question, the next thing to do is to write down your answer on a piece of paper. It is very important you jot down the answers to these questions for it can raise your consciousness of your negative thinking pattern and help you become more accustomed with yourself.

2. Deny Negative Self-Talk.

As you become more conscious of your negative thinking patterns, it’s time to cultivate new patterns of thinking. Most times we discover that negative thoughts are connected to illogical and limiting beliefs. Whenever those negative self-talk arises, quickly deny them. Deny all negative self-talks and limiting beliefs and affirm positive statements. For instance, whenever you have thoughts like “I am not good enough for that position,” deny the negative self-talk and affirm that “you are able and competent for the position.” Practice denying negative self-talk and affirming positive declarations.

Affirmations helps reprogram your mind and arrange your thoughts to move in the positive direction. Whenever you find yourself in a situation that prompts negative self-talk, affirm positive statements. Positive affirmations help organize and directs your thoughts in the positive path.

They are great ways to concentrate on the present moment and break free from the bonds of negative thinking.
